Have you ever seen something or someone and immediately judged? Guilty. That person parked in the handicapped spot who just got out of their car with ease, perhaps?
Recently in my life, I have had reminders over and over that we only see through our own lenses. For one, many of us are running through life at the unsafe speed of 180 mph. We can barely see more than the blur as we zoom by. Am I right? But somehow, we slow and catch a glimpse of someone else and we create a thought. In a split-second, we have a thought. And those negative thoughts are not driven by love.
"You don't look handicapped," says a man looking for a parking spot.
Stunned, the woman exiting her car (with ease) responds, "Thank you."
She wasn't. Really, she wasn't handicapped. But her passenger, whom she was bringing to pick up some necessities, sure was.
I've been guilty of thinking, "Wow, aren't they so rude?" I've caught myself and quickly changed that thought to, "I have no idea what she is going through." Don't get me wrong, it's not my job or desire to make excuses for poor behavior or inappropriate disrespect. It is, however, my intent to understand and remember, that there is a 360-degree view of any given moment, and I only see one, one narrow view. Bridge the gap between what you know and what you don't with love.
Choose grace. Choose to mind your own business. Choose to let it go. We can fill our hearts and minds with frustration based on something we can't fully see AND that sometimes doesn't even impact our lives. In any situation, choose grace. Choose. love. You won't regret it. And really, love is all we need.
